Effects of different cooling media on plastic injection molding machines

1. Water cooling system
advantage:
High cooling efficiency: Water has a large specific heat capacity and can quickly absorb heat in the mold, shorten cooling time, and improve production efficiency.
Precise control: By adjusting the water temperature and water flow, precise control of the mold temperature can be achieved, thereby ensuring dimensional stability and consistent quality of the product.
shortcoming:
High equipment requirements: A complex water circulation system needs to be installed, including water pumps, cooling towers, heat exchangers and other equipment, which requires a large initial investment.
Complex maintenance: Water systems are prone to scale and corrosion and require regular cleaning and maintenance.
2. Air cooling system
advantage:
Simple equipment: The air cooling system has a simple structure, does not require complex pipelines and pump systems, and the initial investment is low.
Easy maintenance: The air cooling system has no corrosion problems and maintenance is relatively simple.
shortcoming:
Low cooling efficiency: The specific heat capacity of air is small, the heat conduction ability is poor, the cooling efficiency is low, and the cooling time is long, which affects production efficiency.
Large environmental impact: Air cooling is greatly affected by ambient temperature and humidity. In high temperature and high humidity environments, the cooling effect is unstable.
3. Oil cooling system

High stability: The thermal conductivity and specific heat capacity of oil are between those of water and air, and can provide a relatively stable cooling effect.
Good anti-corrosion performance: The oil cooling system is not prone to corrosion and is suitable for production environments with high anti-corrosion requirements.

Higher cost: The cooling medium of the oil cooling system is more expensive and requires special oil pumps and filtering equipment, which increases the cost of use.
Pollution risk: Oil leakage and improper handling can cause environmental pollution and require strict management and maintenance.
4. The influence of cooling medium selection on plastic products
1. Product quality
The choice of cooling medium directly affects the cooling rate and cooling uniformity of the product, thereby affecting the internal stress, dimensional accuracy and surface quality of the product. The use of different cooling media has different impacts on energy consumption. Water cooling systems and oil cooling systems usually require additional energy to maintain circulation and temperature control, while air cooling systems mainly rely on ambient air and have lower energy consumption themselves. Choosing the appropriate cooling medium can optimize energy consumption while ensuring product quality.

Although the air cooling system has a simple structure and is easy to maintain, its cooling efficiency is low and it is greatly affected by the environment. Oil-cooled systems provide good stability and anti-corrosion properties, but cost and contamination risks are higher.
